American Exports: Bobby Wood scores first two goals of the season with new team Erzgebirge Aue

AMSTERDAM – Bobby Wood fired his first two goals of the season on Friday night to lead Erzgebirge Aue out of the danger zone with a 3-2 victory away to Bundesliga promotion chasers Fortuna Dusseldorf.


The US attacker opened the scoring on the quarter-hour by charging into the box to oblige some fine set-up work by strike partner Stefan Mugosa. It was not only Wood's first goal in an Aue shirt, but also his first in the 2.Bundesliga since May 2013.


Shortly after the hosts leveled matters, Wood netted his first pro double, putting Aue ahead to stay in the 31st minute. This time, the American found a good spot in the box to finish off more good industry from Patrick Schonfeld.



Wood twice went close to completing the hat trick, only to be denied by the post near he hour and by a smart kick save on 67 minutes. The American would then pick up a yellow card before departing with a what appeared to be a minor calf injury 13 minutes from time.

Thanks to Aue posting consecutive league wins for the first time in almost exactly a year, they tentatively rose to 15th place, two points above the bottom three.
