The Seattle Sounders added to their backline on Tuesday, signing 21-year-old Colombian defender Andrés Correa to a contract. Per league and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"We are pleased to welcome Andrés to Sounders FC," said Seattle general manager and president of soccer Garth Lagerwey in a statement. "He is a dynamic, exciting young player that we believe can compete for minutes on our backline as we head into a packed season across multiple competitions."

Correa comes to Seattle after spending the last four years at Colombian first division clubs Fortaleza and Medellin. The 5-foot-10, 175 pound defender also has experience as a youth international, earning 10 career appearances with Colombia’s youth squads and helping his country to a first-place finish at the 2013 South American U-20 Championship.

"Andrés is a very good young player with a tremendous upside," said Sounders FC Head Coach Sigi Schmid. "Although he's a young player, we believe he can be a contributor this year and we look forward to working with him throughout preseason camp."

The Sounders are currently training at Starfire Sports Complex outside Seattle. The team will move their preseason camp to Tucson on February 15, heading to Arizona to participate in the 2015 FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup.
