American Exports: Tijuana Yanks look to stay tops in Liga MX as Puebla contingent continue relegation fight

Greg Garza on the run for Tijuana

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – It’s a long trip from Tijuana to Chiapas for Xolos this weekend, but a victory will keep US international Greg Garza and the rest of the squad at the top of the Liga MX table.

Garza went off with a knee complaint last weekend against Morelia, but should be ready to start on Saturday against Gabriel Farfan’s side, with Joe Corona, Paul Arriola and Alejandro Guido all in the frame for minutes (10 pm ET, Univision Deportes).

Earlier Saturday, it is another vital relegation clash for Herculez Gomez, Michael Orozco and Puebla as they travel to Monterrey to face Tigres (8 pm ET, Univision Deportes).

Puebla is currently five points adrift of Chivas in the relegation table, with one team set for the drop this May.

Opening the fifth round of games in the Clausura 2015 on Friday is Ventura Alvarado’s Club América, who play Morelia in Estadio Morelos, although the American may be consigned to the bench with center back Pablo Aguilar coming back from injury (8:30 pm ET, Azteca America, Watch ESPN).

On Sunday, there’s a Guadalajara derby as Jesus Vazquez and Leones Negros host Edgar Castillo and Atlas in Estadio Jalisco (6 pm ET, Univision Deportes).

In Mexico’s second division, Marco Vidal’s Mineros de Zacatecas is at home against Austin Guerrero’s Altamira (Friday, 8:30 pm ET), with Atlante’s Sonny Guadarrama facing his former club Merida, for whom Emanuel Guzman is set to play a part (8 pm ET).

On Saturday, Dorados de Sinaloa and Stevie Rodriguez are away against Zacatepec (7 pm ET), while Juan Pablo Ocegueda and Alebrijes de Oaxaca are on the road to Celaya (9 pm ET).
