American Exports: Club Tijuana rise to Liga MX summit, but Greg Garza comes off with knee injury

Greg Garza on the run for Tijuana

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Greg Garza left the field early with a knee injury on Friday, as Club Tijuana overcame Morelia 4-2 in Estadio Caliente to extend its winning run to five games and move into first place in Liga MX.

The left back was playing his usual solid game in defense until he was brought off to make way for Joe Corona in the 52nd minute. The substitution looked more precautionary than serious, and there has been no official word from the club about how long he may be out.

Corona came on in midfield – with Juan Carlos Núñez sliding over to left back – in his second Liga MX game back since breaking his foot back in October.

The San Diego native was himself hurt after a collision left blood pouring out of his head, although the 24-year-old came back on the field sporting what looked to be a swimming cap and was able to complete the game.

Xolos would drop down from first position in the league if Cruz Azul defeat Herculez Gomez’s Puebla, or if Veracruz pick up the three points against Monterrey, on Saturday.
