Second-division side Indy Eleven release renderings for new soccer stadium in downtown Indianapolis

Indy Eleven proposed soccer stadium

Second-division side Indy Eleven on Wednesday released renderings of a proposed $82 million soccer stadium for a yet unidentified location in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana.

Club president Peter Wilt, former GM of the Chicago Fire, told the Indianapolis Star that the design of the stadium, which is projected to seat 18,500, is "subject to change and it surely will change."

Indy Eleven's stadium project is the subject of a bill that is currently on the docket for the Indiana state legislature. A similar proposal didn't make it far last year.

The club currently plays at Carroll Stadium on the campus of Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and registered the best average attendance in the second-tier NASL during their inaugural season of 2014, selling out all 14 home games.

Indy Eleven counts several former MLS players among its coaching staff and team roster, including manager Juergen Sommer (ex-Columbus and New England goalkeeper), assistant Tim Regan (ex-NY, Chivas, Toronto), midfielder Brad Ring (ex-San Jose and Portland), Brazilian Kleberson (ex-Philadelphia Union) and midfielder Victor Pineda (ex-Chicago Fire).
