AMSTERDAM – American forward Aron Jóhannsson helped AZ Alkmaar continue their quest for a Europa League spot, working 77 minutes in a hard-fought 1-1 draw at fourth-place PEC Zwolle in the Dutch Eredivisie.
The US forward put in a decent overall effort, but missed the frame with both of his shot attempts and had his pocket picked while set to break in on goal shortly after halftime. The Cheese Farmers remained a point off a Europa League place in fifth.
Also, in France's Ligue 1, Alejandro Bedoya was an unused substitute as Nantes suffered a 4-0 lesson at Montpellier. Now winless in three, the Canaries slipped to ninth place.
