Herculez Gomez in action for Puebla

Herculez Gomez will be hoping to make it three goals in three games for Puebla (all competitions) in the Estadio Azteca against Ventura Alvarado and reigning Liga MX champions Club América (6 pm ET, Univision Deportes).


Fellow American Michael Orozco has started both Puebla matches so far this season, with the club desperate for points in its fight against relegation.


Later on Saturday, US international Joe Corona is set to return to Liga MX action when Club Tijuana take on Tigres UANL (8 pm ET, Univision Deportes).


Corona made a goalscoring comeback in the Copa MX on Wednesday after recovering from a broken foot and is likely to start on the bench against the Clausura 2014 runners-up in Estadio Universitario.


Greg Garza is set to begin the game against Tigres, for whom Jose Torres is on the long-term injury list and Omar Salgado is yet to make his debut.



Down in southeastern Mexico, Edgar Castillo’s Atlas face Gabriel Farfan’s Chiapas and are bidding to make it three wins from three this Clausura (10 pm ET, Univision Deportes).


On Sunday, Jesus Vazquez and Leones Negros host Chivas in the Estadio Jalisco in a game between two local rivals involved in the relegation battle (6 pm ET, Univision Deportes).


Down in the Ascenso MX on Friday, Marco Vidal’s Mineros de Zacatecas hosts Lobos BUAP (6 pm ET), Sonny Guadarrama’s Atlante are at home to Juan Pablo Ocegueda’s Alebrijes de Oaxaca (9 pm ET) and Emanuel Guzman’s Merida play Irapuato (9:30 p.m. ET).


In Saturday second division games, Austin Guerrero’s Altamira are in action away against San Luis (8 pm ET), while Stevie Rodriguez and Dorados de Sinaloa is on the road to Celaya (9 pm ET).
