New England Revolution's Diego Fagundez comes off bench for Uruguay in rout at South American U-20 Championship

Diego Fagúndez training with Uruguay

New England Revolution forward Diego Fagundez made his return to Uruguay's U-20 lineup on Wednesday, as they crushed Chile 6-1 at the South American Under-20 Championship.

Fagundez came off the bench in the 83rd minute in the rout, replacing Franco Acosta, who scored two goals in the match.

It was the New England Homegrown player's first action at the tournament since starting in Uruguay's group stage opener, a 1-0 win over Colombia where he played 65 minutes. That appearance permanently cap-tied the 19-year-old to the country of his birth.

Uruguay, who are hosting the tournament, have three wins from three so far and have already qualified to the second group stage with one game in their current group to spare. That last game in Group B will come on Friday against Venezuela. The top four finishers in the tournament will qualify for the 2015 U-20 World Cup, to be held in New Zealand later this year.
