New York Red Bulls defender Ambroise Oyongo scores for Cameroon in Africa Cup of Nations opener

New York Red Bulls defender Ambroise Oyongo made his presence known In his Africa Cup of Nations debut on Tuesday.


Playing as a right back with Cameroon, Oyongo made a cutting run into the box and received a ball over the top in the 84th minute, controlled the ball with his right foot and finished it with his left for the team's only goal of an eventual 1-1 draw against Mali.



It was Oyongo's first ever international goal with Cameroon. He did not score a goal for the Red Bulls last season, mostly playing as a left back.


The Indomitable Lions will be back in action on Jan. 24 when they face off against Guinea. Oyongo is one of three MLS players playing in the Cup of Nations, along with Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Rais Mbolhi (Algeria) and Chicago Fire forward David Accam (Ghana).
