American Exports: Jose Torres to miss up to three months after undergoing surgery on herniated disk

American midfielder Jose Torres will miss the majority of Liga MX’s Clausura 2015, Tigres announced on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old underwent successful surgery on Monday to repair a herniated disk, but will be out for up to three months while he recovers.

“The prognosis for ‘Gringo’ Torres’ recuperation is between 10 to 12 weeks,” the club wrote in a tweet on Monday night. “He’ll leave hospital in the next few days.”

Torres missed the first two games of the Clausura season due to the injury, but had been in light training. When there was no improvement with the injury, the club decided surgery was the only option, with the player also having damage to the sciatic nerve.

Torres joined Tigres in November 2012 and became a key figure for coach Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti. He helped the team to its runner-up finish in the Apertura 2014, starting 19 games, including all of the playoff matches.

The former Pachuca player was in the US squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and last played for the national team in the summer of 2013 at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
