Montreal Impact name former DC United assistant Enzo Concina to coaching staff

The Montreal Impact hope to bounce back from last year's last-place finish in the Eas,t and they'll get help from the first-place team to do it.


Former D.C. United assistant coach Enzo Concina was named assistant coach by the Impact on Monday, replacing Nikolaos Kounenakis on the staff. Concina played for the Impact in the old American Professional Soccer League (APSL) in 1994.


"We are very excited to add Enzo to our coaching staff," Impact technical director Adam Braz said in a club statement. "He brings a wealth of experience with his time in Europe and in MLS with D.C. United. In regards to Nikos, his contract expired and we mutually agreed that it was the best decision for us to part ways."

The 52-year-old Concina, who recently served as an assistant for Napoli when they finished third (2010-'11) and second (2012-'13) in Italy's Serie A, is a dual citizen of Italy and Canada and played four matches for the Canadian national team during a playing career that spanned 13 seasons (1982-1994). Before joining DC in 2014, he served as a scout for Inter Milan in 2013.


Concina rounds out the Impact technical staff for 2015, which is led by head coach and director of player personnel Frank Klopas, longtime assistant Mauro Biello and goalkeepers coach Youssef Dahha.

Montreal will begin training camp ahead of the 2015 season on Jan. 23.
