Midfielder Jose Mari leaves Rapids after one season, will return to native Spain

The Colorado Rapids’ busy offseason continued Monday with the departure of midfielder Jose Mari, who leaves the club after one year to play with Spanish La Liga club Levante UD.

Mari, 27, came to the Rapids before the 2014 regular season from his native Spain and ultimately scored four goals in 20 appearances while battling injuries in his first season in MLS. He will perhaps be best remembered for his stunning left-footed half-volley during a match against the Vancouver Whitecaps in April that ended up in the running for the AT&T Goal of the Year (above).

"It has been a wonderful year for me in Denver, with the Rapids, and one that I will always remember," Mari said in a statement.

The Rapids also added veteran midfielder Sam Cronin via trade with the San Jose Earthquakes on Monday.
