American Exports: Jose Torres to undergo surgery for herniated disk

Jose Torres is set for a spell on the sidelines, with Tigres acknowledging that the 27-year-old midfielder will be operated on at midday on Monday.

“Gringo Torres suffered a herniated [slipped] disk with harm to the sciatic nerve,” Tigres announced in a tweet late Sunday night. “After not responding to the traditional treatment, he’ll undergo surgery.”

The Monterrey-based Liga MX club stated that details regarding the expected recovery time for Torres will only be released after the surgery.

Torres missed Tigres’ first two games of the Clausura 2015, but it wasn’t thought to be a case of serious injury.

The Texan was an important figure in his team’s run to the Liga MX Apertura 2014 final in December, starting 19 matches, including each of Tigres' playoff games.

Torres last featured for the US national team in July 2013 at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
