Former German national team goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand may be headed to MLS after his contract was terminated Tuesday at Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 35-year-old Hildebrand, who joined Frankfurt in September of last year after his contract at FC Schalke 04 ran out, was unlikely to start for his new club after the expectant return of previously injured ‘keepers Kevin Trapp and Felix Wiedewald and had asked for his release, according to a report in the German outlet Kicker.

Last week, Hildebrand’s agent Jorg Neblung told ESPN FC that he would prefer his next step to be stateside.

"It remains Timo's wish to work in the United States before his son's first day at school,” Neblung said.

Hildebrand had trained with Seattle ahead of his move to Frankfurt, where he made three appearances this season, but a move to the Sounders was ruled out by Neblung.

Hildebrand earned caps with Germany between 2004 and 2007 and was part of Jurgen Klinsmann's Germany squad at the 2006 World Cup.

He has made 301 Bundesliga appearances for Stuttgart, Hoffenheim, Schalke and Frankfurt and also played for Valencia in La Liga.
