Report: Chicago Fire target Shaun Maloney opts for move to Leicester City

The Chicago Fire have apparently come up short in their chase for Shaun Maloney, according to word emanating from England that the Wigan forward will join English Premier League club Leicester City.

Goal.com reported on Tuesday that Maloney – a 31-year-old Scottish international with 37 international caps since 2005 – has agreed to a move to Leicester despite rumored interest from Everton, Aston Villa, Sunderland, Burnley and the Fire, who confirmed they were waiting on Maloney’s decision this week.

“We’ve shown interest in Shaun,” Fire head coach Frank Yallop told MLSsoccer.com on Tuesday at the MLS Player Combine in Florida. “He’s one of the players we targeted for this season … there’s no denying we have interest in him, just waiting to see where it goes.”

Maloney has been with Wigan since 2011, but previously played for Celtic and Aston Villa. Leicester City are currently in last place in the EPL.
