Transfer Watch: Tottenham reportedly shopping striker Emmanuel Adebayor to MLS clubs

Transfer Watch: Emmanuel Adebayor, Tottenham Hotspur

Another big name got thrown into the Major League Soccer rumor mill on Thursday, with a report surfacing that Tottenham is shopping out-of-favor striker Emmanuel Adebayor to MLS clubs.

The Times newspaper in England reported that Tottenham is speaking with clubs in MLS and in Turkey about the prospect of transferring the 30-year-old Togolese forward, who hasn’t played since Nov. 9 and only recently returned to the club after taking an “indefinite compassionate leave” to be with family in Africa.

After scoring 14 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions for Tottenham last year, Adebayor has struggled this season under new Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, scoring a lone goal in just nine games in all comps. Prior to joining Tottenham, Adebayor spent time with Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Tottenham has dealt with MLS in the past, buying 21-year-old outside back DeAndre Yedlin – who trained with Spurs for the first time on Wednesday – from the Seattle Sounders last summer and selling US national team attacker Clint Dempsey to Seattle in August 2013.
