American Exports: Borussia Dortmund winger Joe Gyau expected to return to training in February

Joe Gyau, Dortmund

AMSTERDAM – After putting the brakes on his initial comeback attempt from knee troubles, Borussia Dortmund winger Jospeh Gyau is now expected back to full training in early February.

Gyau required surgery on his left meniscus due to injury suffered during the US national team's October friendly against Ecuador, and the 22-year-old was originally slated to be out until January. Gyau returned early to make a pair of Borussia Dortmund II sub appearances at the end of November but was quickly put back on the shelf with a muscle strain around the recovered knee joint.

"Joseph is still laboring on a strain," Dortmund press officer Arne Niehörster told MLSsoccer.com on Monday. "He’s on a good way, but will be back to 100 percent not earlier than four weeks."

Gyau, who arrived from Hoffenheim last summer, enjoyed both his USMNT senior bow and his Bundesliga debut with Dortmund in September. He has bagged two goals in 10 games for the reserve side this season.
