MLS community mourns the passing of ESPN anchor Stuart Scott

Stuart Scott, ESPN

After a seven-year fight with cancer, ESPN anchor Stuart Scott passed away on Sunday at the age of 49.

Scott joined ESPN2 in 1993 and eventually became an anchor for the network's flagship show, SportsCenter. He quickly became known for his on-air catchphrases, including "Boo-yah!" and "as cool as the other side of the pillow."

His arrival helped herald a new era for the network, appealing to a younger generation of sports fans. He spoke their language and always delivered the news with a certain degree of flair, poetry, and joy.

This past fall, as the ESPY Awards, he received the Jimmy V Award for Perserverence, and gave a powerful, memorable speech that included his thoughts on cancer and life: "When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live."

Our condolences and thoughts are with Scott's family and friends, as are those of many MLS players who took to social media upon hearing the news.
