One day after announcing he'll be leaving Liverpool at season's end, Steven Gerrard has revealed his destination: the United States.

Liverpool FC's legendary captain on Saturday used the club's official media outlets to communicate that "he will move to the USA this summer" although no specific club was named.

The 34-year-old midfielder, who has played his entire 17-year pro career with his hometown club in England, has been linked with several MLS clubs over recent months, from the New York Red Bulls to Toronto FC and most recently the LA Galaxy.

"I'll be going to play in America. But I'm not over the line with any team just yet," he told Liverpool TV on Saturday. I'm close and as soon as I know, I'll make the announcement."

Although he's famously never won an English Premier League title with Liverpool – he’s finished runner-up with the Reds three times – he did win a UEFA Champions League crown with the club in 2004-05 and he’s won a pair of FA Cups (2000-01, 2005-06). This year he has five goals in 19 English Premier League matches.

Gerrard also ammassed 114 caps with England's national team before retiring from international soccer after the 2014 World Cup.

"This has been the toughest decision of my life," he told LiverpoolFC.com on Friday. "My decision is completely based on my wish to experience something different in my career and life and I also want to make sure that I have no regrets when my playing career is eventually over."
