American Exports: Herculez Gomez nets preseason goal in Puebla return

Herculez Gomez in action for Puebla

Herculez Gomez scored in his first game back with Puebla on Sunday, in La Franja’s 4-2 victory over Mexico’s Under-20 side in a preseason friendly.

Gomez latched onto a through-ball from Cuauhtémoc Blanco and slid a shot past the goalkeeper one minute from the end to seal the victory.

The 32-year-old forward had come off the bench at halftime in Estadio Cuauhtémoc, with Michael Orozco substituting out after an hour of the match.

Gomez was one of four strikers brought in ahead of the Clausura 2015 for coach José Guadalupe Cruz and each of them – Gomez, Matías Alustiza, Luis Gabriel Rey, Wilberto Cosme – netted a goal against El Tri’s youth team.

Puebla begins its battle against relegation from Mexicos’ first division on Jan. 10 against Club Tijuana.
