The Portland Timbers have re-signed forward Gaston Fernandez, according to a report Tuesday from The Oregonian.

The 31-year-old Argentine, who had previously played in his home country and in Mexico, was brought in prior to the 2014 season, in which he recorded seven goals and two assists in a combination of  17 starts and 15 substitute appearances. He also picked up a goal and two assists in CONCACAF Champions League play, and four goals in the Timbers' run to the US Open Cup quarterfinals.

No official word from the Timbers yet on the re-signing, but the team indicated on Dec. 8 when it announced the status of players' contract options for 2015 that it was "in further contract discussions" with Fernandez.
