Seattle Sounders' Marco Pappa wins Premios Univision Deportes' MLS Player of the Year award

The Seattle Sounders won their first Supporters' Shield trophy this season, and the player who helped them capture it in the regular-season finale who was acknowledged for his contributions Thursday.


Sounders midfielder Marco Pappa won the 2015 MLS Player of the Year award at the inaugural Premios Univision Deportes in Miami on Thursday night, beating out Chivas USA's Erick 'Cubo' Torres and Diego Valeri of the Portland Timbers. Pappa finished 2014 with six goals and five assists in 29 matches (24 starts).



The 27-year-old Guatemalan international helped the Sounders clinch the Supporters' Shield this year, scoring both goals in a 2-0 win over the eventual MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy in an intense regular-season finale on Oct. 25.


Pappa was also recognized for his strong campaign last month, winning FutbolMLS.com's 2014 Latino del Año award.
