Report: Mix Diskerud close to signing with Club Tijuana on a free transfer

Mix Diskerud, US national team (Nov. 18, 2014)

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Could another US international be set to join Club Tijuana?

That could be the case if reports that Mix Diskerud – currently a free agent after his contract with Norwegian outfit Rosenborg ran out – is on the move and set to sign for Xolos are to be believed.

Mexican journalist Raúl Guzmán first reported on Thursday that an announcement could be expected shortly.

Goal.com’s Ives Galarcep also chipped in later Thursday and confirmed the mutual interest between club and player, but added that nothing has been finalized.

Club Tijuana already has two full US internationals in Joe Corona and Greg Garza, and the former was in Southern California with the 24-year-old Diskerud just one week ago. Xolos also boast the services of a number of young American players, including Alejandro Guido, Amando Moreno, John Requejo, Fernando Arce, Jr., and Paul Arriola.

Diskerud’s future has been up in the air after his contract ran down at the end of the Norwegian season, with the Norwegian-American suggesting after the United States’ 4-1 loss against Ireland in Dublin that a move to MLS was a possibility but that he was keeping his options open.

Rosenborg sport director Erik Hoftun also stated earlier this month that Diskerud would not automatically be leaving the Tippeligaen silver medalists and that he could potentially sign a new contract.

MLSsoccer.com contacted Club Tijuana about the rumors on Thursday, but Xolos’ press department said there is no official information at present.
