American Exports: Timothy Chandler's strong effort for Eintracht Frankfurt goes to waste

Timothy Chandler, Eintracht Frankfurt

AMSTERDAM – A strong outing from Eintracht Frankfurt right back Timothy Chandler went to waste on Friday night, as a couple of late goalkeeping gaffes cost the visitors in a 3-2 Bundesliga loss at Hoffenheim.

The US international, who had a fine night in the passing game, connected on a 12th minute cross that teammate Alexander Meier meekly shot straight to the home 'keeper. Shortly after Eintracht cancelled Hoffenheim's late first half opener, Chandler went close to putting the guests ahead right on the hour mark with a 25-yard rocket off the left upper 90 of the frame.

Chandler would also pile up four tackles and four clearances, but he was a half-step late out to harass initial shooter Pirmin Schwegler in the 65th minute. The rebound found a way through Eintracht custodian Timo Hildebrand's legs straight to Hoffenheim striker Adam Szalai, who obliged with the home side's second.

The visitors would knot the contest again 13 minutes from time, only to have a Hildebrand error in defending a corner kick lead to Roberto Firmino's winner in the dying moments. The loss halted Eintracht's three-game win streak and dipped them a place to eighth in the table.

One flight down, Andrew Wooten worked a fairly quiet 75-minute shift as Sandhausen battled guests Bochum to a 0-0 stalemate. The hosts, now unbeaten in three, tentatively rose to 12th place.
