AMSTERDAM – Fabian Johnson and Borussia Mönchengladbach finished atop Europa League Group A thanks to a 3-0 cruise past visiting FC Zürich on Thursday night.
The US handyman worked the last 12 minutes on the right wing, managing but a few touches before the final whistle. The Foals ended up unbeaten in group play, edging out Villarreal for the top spot by a single point.
Johnson & Co. will now join Tim Howard's Everton as seeded clubs for Monday's round-of-32 draw, while Sacha Kljestan's Anderlecht and Brad Friedel's Tottenham will be unseeded.
