New England Revolution midfielder Diego Fagundez avoided injury in a car accident Monday night while riding with his family near Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.

The 19-year old midfielder took to his personal Twitter account on Monday night to say he’d been involved in the accident with his mother, and later tweeted that he was at the hospital, leaving some to wonder if he had been injured in the accident.

A New England Revolution spokesperson told MLSsoccer.com on Tuesday, however, that Fagundez was unharmed in the accident and that his mother had simply undergone some X-Rays while in the hospital. No one in the car was injured.

A talented midfielder and the first Homegrown player in franchise history, Fagundez scored five goals in 31 appearances in 2014 after scoring a career-high 13 the year before. He did not appear for the Revs in the MLS Cup final on Sunday in Carson, Calif.

Fagundez was called up to the Uruguay Under-20 team last Friday and will compete for a spot on the team’s 23-man roster for the upcoming South American U-20 Championships.

Although the club left Fagundez unprotected for the MLS Expansion Draft on Wednesday, club president Brian Billelo revealed that the Revs have a trade in place so that neither Orlando City nor New York City FC will select Fagundez.
