Major League Soccer, supporters mourn death of DC United fans in Maryland plane crash

Major League Soccer and its supporters are mourning the loss of three D.C. United fans among the six people killed Monday when a jet crashed into a residential neighborhood in suburban Washington, D.C.


Marie Gemmel, 36, and her two young children were killed when the jet crashed into their house in a neighborhood in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Gemmel and the children were members of the Screaming Eagles, D.C. United’s famous supporters group.


According to the group, Gemmel and her husband Ken – who was not home when the crash took place – joined the Screaming Eagles in 2003.

News of the crash – which also killed three people aboard the plane – stirred up an emotional response on Twitter on Monday, which a number of other MLS supporters groups offering their condolences.
