Former US national team goalkeeper Brad Friedel joins Fox Sports soccer coverage

Brad Friedel warms up for Tottenham

There will be a new voice on Fox Sports' soccer coverage, one that should be very familiar to US national team fans even if the accent is hard to place.

Fox confirmed on Tuesday that Brad Friedel will be joining their soccer coverage. The current Tottenham goalkeeper registered 82 caps for the US national team from 1992-through-2004, and started games in goal for the US in the 1998 and 2002 World Cups. At the club level he has played for Liverpool, Blackburn, Aston Villa, and Tottenham after leaving Columbus Crew SC in 1997.

Friedel joins Fox ahead of the 2015 MLS season and the start of a new eight-year contract with the league that will see them broadcast a minimum of 34 regular season games per season. Friedel is expected to be a part of that coverage. Fox is also expected to add more commentators to their coverage of MLS and the German Bundesliga, which they have the rights for at the start of the 2015-16 season, and have recently been linked to Alexi Lalas of ESPN.
