American Exports: Sacha Kljestan's Anderlecht rally for draw at Dortmund in Champions League finale

Sasha Kljestan vs Standard Liege

AMSTERDAM – Sacha Kljestan and Anderlecht closed Champions League Group D play with a 1-1 rally draw at Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night.

The US international worked 69 minutes, completing 18 of 19 passes while contributing three tackles. Kljestan had a great chance to open the scoring when he ran onto a weak clearance shortly before halftime, but he could only fire over from near the penalty spot.

He came close to padding his American exports record of seven career Champions League assists mere moments before departing, only to watch Aleksandar Mitrović nod his pinpoint left-flank cross over from the doorstep. The young Serbian striker made no mistake six minutes from time, however, pulling the Mauves level to complete a surprise unbeaten run through all three group matches on the road.

Thanks to their third-place finish, Anderlecht will now move on to the Europa League knockouts, with the round-of-32 draw set for Monday.
