Portland Timbers decline contract options on four players, sell Jose Adolfo Valencia

Jose Valencia celebrates his equalizer for Portland at Vancouver

The Portland Timbers have started their offseason with a bang, signing three international players and trading for Real Salt Lake defender Nat Borchers. On Monday they also announced they have declined options on four players, sold another one, and don't plan on re-signing two other players.

The Timbers declined the 2015 contract options on midfielders Kalif Alhassan and Steven Evans, and defenders Bryan Gallego and Pa Modou Kah. Alhassan, who made 93 appearances over four years with the club, is eligible for the MLS Re-Entry Draft, while Evans has signed a contract with the Timbers' USL Pro team, T2.

The Timbers also announced that they have sold forward Jose Adolfo Valencia to Argentina’s Club Olimpo Bahía Blanca. Valencia, the son of Colombian national team legend Adolfo Valencia, was on loan with the club earlier this year.

Defenders Rauwshan McKenzie and Danny O’Rourke will also be leaving the club as they are out of contract and have not been extended bona fide offers. Both players will be eligible for the MLS Re-Entry Draft.
