Transfer Watch: Report claims Philadelphia Union targeting Danish midfielder William Kvist

Transfer Watch: William Kvist

Could the hiring of new consultant Rene Meulensteen already be paying early dividends for the Philadelphia Union in the offseason transfer market?

CBS Philly's Kevin Kinkead reports that a former Meulensteen player at Fulham FC, William Kvist, is "a possible target" for the Union. The 29-year-old Danish international is currently at English second-tier club Wigan Athletic.

According to the CBS Philly article (READ IT HERE), it wasn't clear "whether or not the Union would make an offer … but [a source] confirmed that he was on a list of players that the team was tracking."

When contacted by MLSsoccer.com, the MLS club declined comment, citing club policy to “refrain from commenting on players who are not members of the Philadelphia Union.”

Kvist, a defensive midfielder, was acquired by Fulham in January 2014 when Meulensteen was head coach and the player then moved on a free summer transfer to Wigan, where he is seemingly out of favor. He last figured on a gameday roster back on Nov. 7 against Bolton and he has never been utilized since new coach Malky Mackay took over on Nov. 19.

The Dane's contract with Wigan is up in the summer of 2015.
