LA Galaxy's record-setting run at StubHub Center in 2014 will be put to the test at MLS Cup

The StubHub Center has been a veritable fortress for the LA Galaxy this season and now they get to play the most important game of the season in their home building on Sunday (3 pm ET on ESPN, UniMas, UDN, TSN1, RDS2).

The Galaxy are 14-1-4 at home this season, including the MLS Cup Playoffs, presented by AT&T, with their only loss coming in their home opener back in March against Real Salt Lake.

Along the way they have put up some gaudy numbers. The Galaxy became the first team in league history to put up a +30 goal differential at home over the course of a regular season and they were able to achieve this by scoring over 2.5 goals per game at home while conceding less than a goal per game at home -- again, the only MLS team ever to put up both those numbers.

That impressive run at StubHub Center stands in stark contrast to the Galaxy's road form in 2014. They went only 5-6-6 away from home during the regular season and their 1.24 points per game was only tied for the fifth highest average in the league this season.

But back to their home record: One of the many reasons for the success has been their potency in the final third. On the road their passing accuracy in the final third came in at 64.7 percent, good for fifth in the league. That percentage increased by 10 points when the team was at home.

Their 74.7 passing accuracy in the final third on the wide expanse of the StubHub Center field was 4.5 percentage points higher than any other team at home since Opta began collecting data in 2010.

Highest Passing Accuracy in Final Third at home since 2010
Team Year Passing Accuracy in Final Third
201474.7%
2012 70.2%
2014 69.9%
2014 69.9%
2012 69.8%

Oh, and it's worth noting that the Galaxy are 15-2-1 all-time at their home stadium in the playoffs since the StubHub Center opened in 2003.

Needless to say, the New England Revolution, who have proven to be a solid road team in these playoffs (two victories), have their hands full.
