New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles takes home 2014 MLS Save of the Year award

The first save was impressive enough – wrong-footed by a deflected shot, Luis Robles managed to change direction enough to parry a Marco Pappa effort up in the air in front of his own goal.

What happened next, however, brought Red Bull Arena to its feet, as Robles somehow managed to spring up and deny a wide-open look from Clint Dempsey, completing a highlight-reel double save.

It was a truly memorable moment in a 4-1 drubbing of the Seattle Sounders, and now it is the 2014 MLS Save of the Year.

Robles' double effort edged out a close fan vote that included another strong double save by FC Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez, a game-saving penalty save by RSL's Nick Rimando, and Portland 'keeper Donovan Ricketts' rejection of a stinging free kick.

The Save of the Year award was determined by an online fan vote, from a field of the 32 Save of the Year winners in 2014. For more information on the contest, please visit the 2014 Save of the Year homepage.

Robles' win is the first for a New York player since the Save of the Year award was first presented in 2009, and denied Rimando a three-peat after the USMNT goalkeeper captured the award in 2012 and 2013.
