American Exports: Timothy Chandler, Eintracht Frankfurt notch another win; Tim Howard loses to Spurs

Timothy Chandler, Eintracht Frankfurt

AMSTERDAM – Several Americans clocked in for club duty overseas on Sunday, with Timothy Chandler and Eintracht Frankfurt sending shock strugglers Borussia Dortmund into the Bundesliga basement with a 2-0 home victory.

The right back notched a game-high six pass interceptions to go with a handful of useful defensive plays in and around his own area. Thanks to consecutive wins, Eintracht have jumped into the better half of the table.

One league below, Terrence Boyd of visiting RB Leipzig and Sandhausen's Andrew Wooten each came up empty in a 0-0 draw.

Wooten, who went 88 minutes, missed the first good chance of the game agonizingly wide shortly after kickoff. In the 26th minute, it was Boyd's turn to fire inches wide at the other end in his best look at goal in the game. The Red Bulls dipped down to sixth place, while Sandhausen fell to 14th.

In English Premier League action, the bulletproof run of Tim Howard came to an end with a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham.

The 10th-place Toffees squandered both an early lead and four saves from the American to suffer their first league loss in six. Christian Eriksen feasted on a tempting rebound left by Howard to tie the game on 21 minutes and Roberto Soldado bagged the winner near halftime.

Over in Belgium's Jupiler League, Sacha Kljestan worked a strong 37-minute relief shift, but champs Anderlecht were forced to settle for a 2-2 share with visiting table toppers Club Brugge.

The former MLS Bext XI selection entered with the Mauves up one and nearly put the game away with 20 minutes remaining, only to watch his drive from near the spot expertly saved by Club Brugge's Australia netminder Matthew Ryan. Kljestan & Co. conceded with three minutes on the clock to remain a point behind their arch rivals from Brugge.
