American Exports: Brad Guzan's Aston Villa, Geoff Cameron's Stoke suffer late EPL disappointment

Geoff Cameron in action for Stoke City

COLOGNE, Germany – Brad Guzan and Aston Villa were denied a drought-busting win near full time for the second straight weekend, with Burnley grabbing an 87th-minute equalizer from the spot to earn a 1-1 home draw on Saturday afternoon.

The US netminder notched three saves on the day, with his top stop foiling Michael Kightly shortly after intermission. Now winless in nine Premier League matches, Villa inched two points above the danger line with their third consecutive draw.

Elsewhere, a strong right-back showing from Geoff Cameron went to waste as Stoke City suffered a hard-fought 1-0 defeat at Liverpool.

The Potters handyman accrued a game-best five pass interceptions and six clearances, to go with a second-half yellow card. By dropping consecutive EPL matches for the first time since January, Stoke slipped to 15th place.

Over in the Bundesliga, John Anthony Brooks and Hertha Berlin battled bravely in a 1-0 home loss to defending champs Bayern Munich.

With the Bavarians owning 80 percent of possession, Brooks totalled four clearances and as many pass interceptions, plus a pair of blocked shots. Hertha lost for the third time in four to fall to 13th place.

Elsewhere in Germany, Julian Green worked 15 minutes off the bench as Hamburg dropped a 3-1 decision at Augsburg.

The USMNT youngster nearly pulled one back for HSV with four minutes left, only to have Augsburg 'keeper Alex Manninger kick out his low redirection shot. Green would then see yellow a moment before the final whistle shipped the visitors back into the drop zone.
