Germany announce June 2015 friendly vs. US national team in Cologne

Jermaine Jones battles against Germany

The in-the-works friendly between the US national team and Germany is beginning to look a little more official.

The German soccer federation announced on its website Friday that the reigning World Cup champions will host the US in a friendly next summer. The match is scheduled to be played on June 10 at the RhineEnergieStadion in Cologne.

While there has been no official word from US Soccer, the American federation recently admitted being engaged in talks with Germany over a potential friendly.

If the match against head coach Jurgen Klinsmann's birth nation is finalized, the game is expected to be part of the USA's final preparations ahead of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The Americans have played Germany twice in the Klinsmann era, suffering a 1-0 defeat in the group stage finale at the World Cup this past summer and picking up a thrilling 4-3 victory in a friendly in 2013.
