Columbus Crew SC center back Michael Parkhurst picked up the third XBox Individual Fair Play award of his career on Monday, and the Philadelphia Union won the XBox Team Fair Play award for the first time in their five-year history.


Both awards are selected by Major League Soccer officials, based on a combination of objective criteria, such as fouls committed and cards received, and subjective evaluation of sportsmanlike behavior.


Parkhurst committed just 11 fouls in 33 games during the 2014 season and received only one yellow card while helping Columbus return to the MLS Cup Playoffs. He also won the Individual Fair Play Award in 2007 and 2008, while playing for the New England Revolution.


For his career, he has been whistled for 43 fouls and four yellow cards in 148 regular-season contests.



Parkhurst is the second player to win the Individual Fair Play Award three times, joining former Tampa Bay Mutiny and New England Revolution star Steve Ralston, who won the award in 1999, 2000 and 2009.


Other finalists for the award were 2013 winner and Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe and Chicago Fire rookie Harry Shipp.


The Philadelphia Union won the team award after drawing 37 yellow cards during the regular season, 11 fewer than any other team. and committing the sixth-fewest fouls (417).


Other finalists for the team award were the LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake.
