American Exports: Alejandro Guido holds his own vs. Mexican internationals in Xolos win

Alejandro Guido with Tijuana's U-20s

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Alejandro Guido made the second Liga MX start of his career for Club Tijuana in their final match of the Apertura 2014 tournament, a 3-2 victory over reigning champions León.

Guido played in central midfield, up against León’s Mexico internationals Carlos “Gullit” Peña and José Juan “Gallito” Vázquez, and held his own until he was subbed off with half an hour to go. The 20-year-old San Diego native passed the ball authoritatively and sent a positive chipped ball over the defense in the 48th, from which Colombian Dayro Moreno should’ve done better.

Guido has featured mainly for Xolos’ Under-20s and in the Copa MX this season.

Greg Garza wasn’t involved at all for Tijuana, while Paul Arriola came off the bench in the 73rd with Xolos sitting back and hoping to catch Leon on the counter-attack. Despite the win, Tijuana finished the season outside of the playoff places, with 21 points from 17 matches.

In the Ascenso MX semifinal second leg, Marco Vidal went 84 minutes for Mineros de Zacatecas in their 2-1 victory over Necaxa, who advanced on away goals following its 1-0 win in the first leg.
