Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy selected first as MLS holds Chivas USA Dispersal Draft

It all went down as expected. Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, the jewel of the Chivas USA roster, was selected by FC Dallas with the first pick in the Chivas USA Dispersal Draft held on Wednesday.

Kennedy, 32, has been considered one of the league's top goalkeepers since assuming the starting role for the Rojiblancos in 2011.

Only six other players were selected during the draft, and all of them are young players.

2015 expansion club New York City FC added 20-year-old midfielderMatthew Dunn, who saw additional time late in the season, with the second pick.

D.C. United picked up versatile attacker Thomas McNamara, 23, who started the first six matches of the season and scored one goal before a knee injury in April sidelined him for the rest of the season.

The Montreal Impact then snagged Donny Toia, the 22-year-old breakout star of Chivas USA’s defense in 2014. The former Real Salt Lake Homegrown player started at left back for 24 of Chivas’ final 27 games.

The Colorado Rapids bolstered their young attacking corps with Caleb Calvert, an 18-year-old Homegrown player who didn't see any action in 2014 but has international experience at the youth level.

The San Jose Earthquakes nabbed 22-year-old forward Kristopher Tyrpak, a rookie who saw just 156 minutes of MLS action but posted a goal and an assist.

Finally, Marco Delgado was selected in the draft with the 14th pick by Toronto FC. A Homegrown, the 19-year-old midfielder/defender has already made 37 appearances for the club.

The Dispersal Draft was conducted via teleconference call with representatives from all 20 MLS clubs. Each team was given one minute to determine their selection. The draft concluded when all MLS clubs forewent a selection.

MLS clubs acquiring Dispersal Draft players must take players at their full 2015 budget charges and options must be exercised, including any associated transfers or loans. Players unselected in today’s Dispersal Draft will take part in the Re-Entry Draft, if eligible, or will be made available via the Waiver Draft on Dec. 10.
