Four MLS stars nominated for Univision Deportes' inaugural Univision Sports Awards

LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan, Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Marco Pappa, Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri and Chivas USA forward Erick “Cubo” Torres were named among the five nominees for Univision Deportes' inaugural “Premios Univision Deportes” (Univision Sports Awards) on Tuesday.


Pappa, Valeri and Torres are up for the MLS Player of the Year award, while Torres’ sensational bicycle goal against the Montreal Impact on July 7 is nominated for Goal of the Year. Donovan is also nominated for Best Artistic Performance by an Athlete, based on his role in a commercial for EA Sports.


Awards will be presented to 25 winners for their passion and excellence in sports and their connection to Hispanic American sports fans. Categories include Best Soccer Game of the Year, Best Sports Moment of the Year and Sport Achievement of the Year.



Premios Univision Deportes winners will be selected both by fan voting as well as by a diverse committee of sports personalities, including journalists, broadcasters and retired athletes. Fan-selected awards include Best Goal, Best Extreme Sports Athlete, Best Social Post of the Year and Best Artistic Performance by an Athlete.
