The Philadelphia Union announced Monday that David Seltzer and other family members have joined the club as investors.

Seltzer is a principal and co-founder of Mercator Advisors, a Philadelphia-based financial advisory firm formed in 2001.

“We are pleased to welcome both David and his family as we continue our commitment to bringing in local, strategic business leaders as investors to the Philadelphia Union,” Union CEO and operating partner Nick Sakiewicz said in a statement. “Both David and his sons Jamie and Evan have a passion for business and sports, and they will make a fantastic addition.”

Seltzer, a Philly native, has more than 35 years of experience in the field of public and project finance, working in both the governmental and private sectors. He spent 20 years in investment banking, assembling bond issues for transportation and other infrastructure programs, including work at Lazard Frères and Lehman Brothers. He also served as senior advisor to the Federal Highway Administrator at USDOT for several years.

He currently is chair of the board of Philadelphia Gas Works, the nation’s largest municipally-owned gas utility, and serves on several non-profit boards, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia, and Starfinder Foundation, a soccer-based youth development organization.

Seltzer holds a BA in Urban Studies from Trinity College in Hartford and an MBA from The Wharton School.
