US Soccer in discussions on proposed June 2015 friendly vs. World Cup champions Germany

Could the US national team renew hostilities with the reigning world champions next summer?

Oliver Bierhoff, the general manager of the 2014 World Cup-winning German national team, told reporters at a Tuesday press conference that Die Mannschaft is planning a June friendly against the USMNT, one year after Germany defeated the Yanks 1-0 in their group-stage clash at Brazil 2014.

“In June we play the United States,” said Bierhoff as his team prepares for upcoming matches vs. Gibraltar and Spain, “and look forward to meeting Jurgen Klinsmann once again.”

Klinsmann, a crack goalscorer, team captain and World Cup winner during his distinguished playing career for Germany, led his native land's national team from 2004-06.

When contacted by MLSsoccer.com, U.S. Soccer officials said that the match has not yet been confirmed, but acknowledged that negotiations are underway.

“We do not have a signed agreement,” said a USSF spokesman, “[but] we have spoken to Germany about a game.”

The USA hold a 1-1 record against the four-time world champs during head coach Jurgen Klinsmann's tenure, having defeated a reserve-laden Germany side 4-3 in May 2013 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.

Klinsmann's team is currently training in London ahead of Friday's friendly vs. Colombia at Craven Cottage (2:45 pm ET, ESPN/UniMas), to be followed by a match against Ireland in Dublin on Nov. 18 (2:30 pm ET, ESPN2/ESPN Deportes).
