Report: New England Revolution star Lee Nguyen to be called up for USMNT matches in Europe

Lee Nguyen, New England Revolution (June 28, 2014)

It's been over seven years since New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen last appeared for the senior USMNT.

That could be about to change.

With an MVP-caliber 2014 season -- his 18 goals are the most by any American player in MLS -- Nguyen may have done enough to attract the attention of USMNT Jurgen Klinsmann with two international matches coming up next week (Nov. 14 vs. Colombia in London and Nov. 18 vs. the Republic of Ireland in Dublin).

The Bent Musket reports that Nguyen will be called up by Klinsmann for both matches as revealed by Revolution owner Jonathan Kraft on a local Boston radio show.

No official word for now from the US Soccer Federation, but we won't have to wait for long for confirmation: The final roster for the two USMNT matches is expected to be released on Monday.

Should the Revolution advance past the Columbus Crew in Sunday's second-leg playoff match at Gillette Stadium, the club's first match against the New York Red Bulls in the Eastern Conference Championship would take place on November 23.

Nguyen, who has played for the US Under-23s, Under-20s and Under-18 teams, has three senior USMNT caps and all of them came in 2007. His full debut came against China on June 2, 2007 and he also made two appearances in the 2007 Copa America in Venezuela that summer.
