Greg Garza on the run for Tijuana

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Greg Garza was shaken with a head injury in Tijuana’s 3-3 tie last Sunday against Chivas, but will be back for Friday’s must-win Liga MX clash in Estadio Caliente against Toluca (10:30 pm ET, Azteca America, ESPN Deportes).

October 28, 2014

With Joe Corona out injured, Garza will likely be the only American to get minutes, although Paul Arriola, Alejandro Guido and Amando Moreno are all possibilities to make the bench. Xolos go into the game down in 12th position and need the three points to get back into the playoff reckoning with just three rounds of matches left in the regular season of the Apertura 2014.

On Saturday, Michael Orozco’s Puebla host Pachuca (7 pm ET, Azteca America) looking to improve their relegation situation, while Edgar Castillo’s Atlas are flying high and could potentially secure a Copa Libertadores place next season with a victory at reigning champion León (10 pm ET, Telemundo).

Herculez Gomez is not guaranteed to start for Tigres against Querétaro (9 pm ET, Univision Deportes) in Estadio Universitario following a muscle problem that kept him out of the midweek Copa MX match, but Jose Torres will likely take his place in Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti’s starting side. A win for Tigres would all but guarantee a place in the postseason.

Down in Mexico’s second division, it’s playoff time. Daniel Cuevas’ Lobos BUAP host Marco Vidal’s Mineros de Zacatecas on Saturday (2 pm ET), with Sonny Guadarrama’s Atlante at home to his former club Necaxa the same day (9 pm ET). On Sunday, Austin Guerrero and Altamira play at home vs. Correcaminos (8 pm ET).
