GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Jose Torres and Tigres crashed out of the Copa MX semifinals on Wednesday night, letting a two-goal lead slip against Santos Laguna.

Covering at left back once again for Tigres, it was Torres who took the left-footed free kick that struck the crossbar in the 12th minute, with the rebound bouncing off Santos Laguna’s Javier Orozco and into the net for the home team’s second goal at the Estadio Universitario.

Ten minutes later, with the score still locked at 2-0, Torres took another free kick from the edge of the box, and the curling effort forced a solid save from Julio González.

Los Guerreros then took control against the reigning Copa MX holders, with Djaniny Tavares and Andrés Rentería leveling before halftime. After the break, Oswaldo Alanís and then Orozco netted to seal the 4-2 result in Santos’ favor.

Herculez Gomez missed out on the match due to a muscle injury, but remains in contention for Saturday’s Liga MX home game against Ronaldinho and Querétaro.

Santos Laguna will face Michael Orozco’s Puebla in the Copa MX final, with the date yet to be determined.
