American Exports: Fabian Johnson a late substitute as Borussia M'gladbach hold Bayern Munich to draw

Fabian Johnson

AMSTERDAM – Fabian Johnson was a late sub as Borussia Mönchengladbach stood their ground early in the Bundesliga title race by holding visiting pace-setters Bayern Munich to a 0-0 draw on Sunday evening.

The US international came on for the final nine minutes, but had precious few chances to play a part. Both clubs remained unbeaten on the season, with the share keeping 'Gladbach four points shy of the champs' league lead.

One level below in the 2.Bundesliga, Alfredo Morales and Ingolstadt moved five-points clear on the summit with a 1-0 victory over Heidenheim. The US midfielder saw yellow as the hosts stretched their win streak to four games.

Also, Sandhausen striker Andrew Wooten actively went the distance without ever cracking the Erzgebirge Aue code in a 1-1 home draw. By snapping a three-game losing skid, Sandhausen inched their way out of the bottom three.

In Belgium's Jupiler League, Sacha Kljestan went unused as Anderlecht suffered a 2-0 home defeat against derby rivals Standard Liège. Now winless in three, the champs saw their tabletop edge sliced to two points.
