American Exports: Herculez Gomez in line to start for Tigres in Clasico Regio vs. Monterrey

Herculez Gomez celebrates a Tigres goal

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Striker Herculez Gomez looks set to start for Tigres in one of the most passionate clásico matches in Mexican soccer on Saturday, when his side takes on Monterrey in Estadio Tecnológico (8 pm ET, Univision Deportes).

Also involved in the Monterrey derby – or Clásico Regio – will be Jose Torres, with an outside chance the Texan features at left back, following an injury to Mexico international Jorge Torres Nilo. A win for either team would confirm their spot in the Apertura playoffs, with three rounds of games remaining.

Also on Saturday, Edgar Castillo’s Atlas take on Michael Orozco’s Puebla in Estadio Jalisco (10 pm ET, Univision Deportes), with the former looking to seal a playoff place and the latter looking for points to improve its relegation position.

On Sunday, Club Tijuana is on the road at Chivas (7 pm ET, Univision Deportes), looking to move up from its ninth position and end the weekend inside the top eight of the Liga MX. Greg Garza has already been named in the starting XI by coach Daniel Guzmán, with Paul Arriola also in the hunt for minutes. Joe Corona is absent due to the injury picked up last weekend.

In Mexico’s second division, Sonny Guadarrama’s Atlante hosts Daniel Cuevas’ Lobos BUAP on Friday (8 pm ET), with Marco Vidal’s Mineros de Zacatecas at home to Zacatepec (9 pm ET).

On Saturday, Stevie Rodriguez is likely to see action for Dorados de Sinaloa away at Mérida, with Juan Pablo Ocegueda’s Alebrijes de Oaxaca playing Coras (8 pm ET).

Finally, Austin Guerrero and Altamira is on the road to Irapuato (8 pm ET, Sat).
