American Exports: Is Freddy Adu set to add yet another country to his growing resume?

AMSTERDAM – The odyssey of Freddy Adu may start a new chapter in Sweden, with the FK Jagodina outcast drawing some interest after being shopped around to Allsvenskan clubs.

A source close to the situation informed MLSsoccer.com that the 25-year-old attacker was free to leave the Serbian top flight club in January should he find a new club. Adu was signed this past summer by manager Mladen Dodić, who was then fired in September.

Adu was handed his Jagodina debut by new boss Simo Krunić eight days later with a 14-minute shift in their 4-0 Serbian Cup win over BSK Borca, but the coach has since decided the American does not fit into his tactical plans.

As originally reported on Wednesday by Swedish outlet Fotbolltransfers.com, domestic agent Denis Celebic has come up with a pair of potential suitors for the playmaker in the Allsvenskan while working on behalf of his stateside reps.

"Freddy is a friend of mine and I am trying to see the options in Sweden for him in the future," Celebic confirmed to MLSsoccer.com. "He is a great guy and I'm trying to find if there is a stable club over here where he can develop.

"If he comes to a stable club, my opinion is he will show all his qualities. I'm helping him because I see a quality player in him and Sweden would benefit a whole lot with his skills."

Aside from MLS stints of varying success with D.C. United, Real Salt Lake and Philadelphia Union, Adu has seen action in Portugal, France, Greece, Turkey, Brazil and now Serbia. His overseas jobs have seen him work just 59 overall contests since first heading abroad to Benfica in 2007, with nine goals and four assists to his credit.
