American Exports: Joe Corona injured, leaves stadium on crutches as Club Tijuana best Ronaldinho

Joe Corona reacts to missing a goal for Club Tijuana

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – US international Joe Corona left Estadio Caliente on crutches Friday, as Club Tijuana came from behind to defeat Ronaldinho’s Querétaro 2-1.

Corona and Greg Garza both came off the bench – with Xolos behind – after an hour, but the former was forced off 13 minutes later with what looked liked a serious injury to his right foot.

“Thanks to everyone for the love and support!” wrote Corona on his Instagram account. “We will be back in no time!”

Both Americans – usually starters for Xolos – were substitutes after featuring for the US national team in games against Ecuador and Honduras over the past week.

Ronaldinho put
Gallos Blancos
ahead with a header in the 46th, but a Juan Arango free kick drew Xolos level and a late winner from Dario Benedetto handed Tijuana the three points.

Amando Moreno
was an unused substitute in the victory, which moves Xolos up temporarily into the playoff places

After the match, Tijuana coach Daniel Guzmán said the club would have to wait to see the test results to determine the extent of Corona’s right foot injury.

Corona seemed to suggest that on social networks that he had fractured his fifth metatarsal bone, which could keep him out at least a month.
