One of the most prestigious youth soccer tournaments in the nation is officially underway.
The 2014-15 Generation adidas Cup, a competition featuring the academy squads of 18 MLS clubs, has wrapped up its first round of matches being played over this Columbus Day weekend. Each club will wrap up the weekend with two more matches.
The highlights of Matchday 1 included Chivas USA and the Portland Timbers beating up on their most heated rivals, the LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders, respectively. The Goats came away 3-0 winners, while the Timbers hammered the Sounders 4-0, with goals by four different players.
After the conclusion of Event 1, the second stage of the tournament (Event 2) takes place over Presidents' Day weekend (Feb. 13-16, 2015), with the national finals staged over Easter weekend (April 2015).
